The mission and ministry of the Anglican Diocese in Belize seeks to produce a positive impact on our society through spiritual, educational and social interventions, and to do so within the context of Christian moral and social principles.
In a country which is struggling with poverty (according to statistics, about 33% of the population, some 88,400 persons, live below the poverty line), health issues, the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS, the increase in crime, and many other such issues, the church in Belize is challenged to achieve its spiritual objectives which is its primary mission, within an environment of enormous social ills.
Our church’s spiritual message is of God’s love for all of us, but there are many needs which we have to address along with this spiritual message. A Belizean proverb transcribed from Creole dialect states that in essence an empty crocus bag cannot stand on its own. The principle of this proverb is prescient to our spiritual message and objectives. Our spiritual message to the Belizean society is that all of us, rich and poor, creole, mestizo, garifuna, maya, adult and child, Christian and non-Christian, Anglican and non-Anglican are children of God and deserving of spiritual, physical and mental nourishment. And all have to be assisted where there is a genuine need.
In the early days the Anglican Church’s close relationship with the governing authorities enabled it to embark on a number of social initiatives, chief among which was the primary role the church played in the education system. Eventually, the Anglican Church was able to establish schools throughout the country. However, the Anglican Church in Belize has also taken the initiative to be a part of other outreach program and mission projects.
Unfortunately, the resources of our diocese, financial and otherwise, do not enable us to meet all our goals at a level we would consider satisfactory. We continue to be immensely grateful for the assistance in the past which has come from its longime partners and donor agencies, companion dioceses, sister churches, and friends. The diocese has combined its own resources with the resources donated to meet some of the needs with which we are involved.
In the following pages (please select from the drop-down menu above) you will find a list and description of the major outreach initiatives of our church, for which we solicit your support by prayer and financial contribution. If you would like to make a financial donation, please click on the "Donate Now" button found on our pages.
Do take the time to review as many of the initiatives as would be helpful in making your decision to support us. Please know of our heartfelt gratitude for any support we receive.
